What We Must NEVER Forget

The phrase “Never forget” is one we have heard again and again regarding 9/11. Last Friday, Americans across the country remembered that tragic day through prayers and reflections, vigils and memorials, but especially in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pa. Not only was this year the 25th anniversary of 9/11, but this remembrance also fell on the 250th year of the birth of our nation. 

Our Faith & Liberty team went to Ground Zero in New York to pray on Sept. 12, 2001, and we were also a part of a service praying in front of the Capitol just two days later on Sept. 14. This year, Faith & Liberty was privileged to attend a public memorial on the Capitol steps. Rev. Patrick Mahoney, a friend of the ministry, was permitted to have 15 other prayer intercessors join him in heartfelt prayers and songs of worship. A 90-minute program included both guided and spontaneous prayer. The intercessors prayed for the heroes who lost their lives, families who lost loved ones, first responders, and military members who put their lives on the line for others, and asked God to heal and protect our nation. Several former service members watched, prayed, and worshiped, and were thankful to be honored.  

This week is very much focused on prayer as we join in on the White House Faith Office prayer call and open up our reserved room in the Cannon House Office Building for anyone who wishes to pray with us one on one. 

At the end of the week, we will participate in a time of prayer and fasting with Christian leaders from around the world. The vision for this event, called “Redigging the Wells of Revival,” is: “To gather God’s people to pray, fast and to cry out with desperation and expectation from the sites of revivals (from each nation and in all 50 states in the US), to redig the wells of revival.” House Chaplain Margaret Kibben; Dr. Corinthia Boone; Kelly Wright, CBN News; and John Whaley, The Rooftop North America, are among the prayer leaders who will take part. 

As we have pledged to “Never forget” what happened on 9/11, let us also never forget to thank the Lord for His mercy and grace upon this nation despite our shortcomings. 

Thank you, too, for standing with Faith & Liberty in your prayers this week as we lift up the name of Jesus on Capitol Hill and declare, as Moses did, “The Lord is my Banner” (Exodus 17:15).

  • Saving the unborn: We attended a congressional pro-life briefing, “50 YEARS OF HYDE: The Hyde Amendment’s Impact and the Ongoing Fight to Retain Protections That Save Unborn Lives,” co-hosted by our sister organization, Liberty Counsel Action. This was an important opportunity to stay engaged in the effort to protect unborn life and to connect with others working to uphold these vital protections in Congress. 

  • Rebuilding the walls: The Nehemiah Alliance’s 52 days of unified prayer, fasting, and repentance has begun, and we are participating. This season of focused prayer is an opportunity to seek the Lord for our nation, our leaders, and spiritual renewal in our nation's capital.
  • Praying for those in authority: We joined the White House weekly prayer call, continuing to stand in prayer for our nation, its leaders, and the work of our federal government.  
  • Studying the Word: We had evening and afternoon Bible studies, classes, and pop-up intern nights at the Ministry Center. Pray that they will be effective in leading those who serve on Capitol Hill to fully submit their lives to the Lord as many have already!  

  • Mentoring meet-ups: We thoroughly enjoy meeting with and mentoring young people here on Capitol Hill. We value your prayers for these important one-on-one conversations and prayer times.
  • Events abound! We continue our preparation for upcoming events, including the 24-hour Bible Reading Marathon outside the Capitol in October, the Congressional Women’s Prayer Breakfast, the Consecration of the Courts’ private communion event, a pastors’ breakfast with Love Life Ministries, the Live Nativity, and much more. 
  • America 250: Believers who are committed to praying for our country are invited to come together weekly at our Ministry Center for the America 250 prayer time. We gather to intercede for the nation’s capital and the government leaders called upon to make critical decisions on behalf of the American people.
