Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

Covering the Capital: Is Peace Possible?

Jun 30, 2026

Faith & Liberty was privileged to host and co-sponsor a series of lunchtime talks on Israel on topics including Why Israel Matters to America, Why Israel Matters to Christians, and Why Israel Is Under Attack from the Right/Left.

Simply relying on the mainstream media for news about Israel will not do. We live in an era of rising misinformation and political shifts, so it is important for all Americans but especially for those working in our nation’s capital to grasp the strategic, historical, and biblical foundations of the U.S.-Israel relationship. Why is the nation of Israel so important, and what is its role in our world today?.

Faith & Liberty brings the Word of God to Capitol Hill, ministering to lawmakers and their staff through prayer and worship, Bible studies, fellowship, pastoral care, discipleship, and prophetic witness. Through your active support, Faith & Liberty is standing for faith, freedom, and the family in this 250th year of America’s founding. Would you prayerfully consider giving today to support this vital ministry? We appreciate your prayers and gifts to help the Faith & Liberty team thrive as your missionaries in our nation's capital.

Mat Staver — chairman of Faith & Liberty, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, and founder of Covenant Journey — was our final speaker in the “Why Israel Lunch and Learn Series.” Not one to shy away from hard topics, Mat addressed about 60 people on the topic of whether a Two-State Solution can bring about peace in the Middle East. Has the Two-State “Solution” failed, or should diplomacy try again? Has a land-for-peace deal ever worked? Will there be peace in this generation?

Mat reflected on these larger questions as well as on the history of the modern-day establishment of the state of Israel. He discussed the identity of the Palestinian people, the history of Gaza and the “West Bank,” and the founding and intent of groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, and the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR). Do the Jewish people have a right today to the land God promised them in the Scriptures, and what does it mean when Israel’s enemies use the phrase “from the River to the Sea”?

You can see why this talk rounded out our series. Please pray for these conversations to continue among people of faith and on Capitol Hill. And join us in blessing the Jewish people and praying for the peace of Jerusalem!

Thank you, too, for standing with Faith & Liberty and empowering us, through your kind gifts and prayers, to serve here on Capitol Hill!

MINISTRY RECAP
  • Thursday was opening day of The Great American State Fair on Washington’s National Mall. Featuring more than 150 exhibits from the nation's 56 states and territories, the fair aims to showcase the very best of America. Each day will have a theme, and tomorrow, July 1, the theme is “Faith, Values, and Inspiration.” Faith & Liberty used this opportunity to network, meet interns and congressional staffers, and invite them to our ministry events.

  • Patty Bills participated Monday in the White House Faith Office call with Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

  • We are encouraged by how God is speaking to the interns and congressional staffers through the study of His precious Word in our Bible studies.

  • As noted above, Mat Staver, chairman of Faith & Liberty, was our final speaker in the five-part “Why Israel Lunch and Learn Series.” Mat spoke on “The Two-State ‘Solution?’” — a vital subject that directly impacts peace efforts in the Middle East.

  • We also attended a reception introducing Israel’s new ambassador to Christians around the world. Ambassador George Deek is Israel’s first-ever envoy to the Christian world. Faith and ministry leaders gathered for a reception and prayed over Ambassador Deek.

  • Patty joined the Pastors to POTUS National Call with Pastor Lorenzo Sewell. He encouraged pastors of churches to come together, actively meet needs of the people of D.C., encourage defunding programs that do not represent Christian values, and support those that do.

  • We also participated in the Hill Ministry Zoom call with Chaplain Margaret Kibben and other ministries. Patty was able to share about Faith & Liberty programs and events and our mission in the nation’s capital.

  • Lindsey Cruz and Patty Bills held a meeting with Eagles of Fire regarding a monthly prayer service on Saturday evening at the Ministry Center, our outreach, and praying for our country and the decision-makers on Capitol Hill.

  • RSVP only: You are invited to an America 250 intercessory prayer time every Saturday at our Ministry Center. Would you like to pray for our nation with others who believe in the power of prayer? If so, please contact Patty Bills at 202-737-1776 for more information and join us.
