Making A Difference In The Nation's Capital Through Prayer And Action

The Danger of Ignoring God's Word

Mar 9, 2020

Imagine it is the middle of the night in Washington, DC. It's dark outside and there is a stillness over Capitol Hill. There isn't much noise except for the steady voice of a person reading aloud from a book on the plaza of the U.S. Capitol – and not just any book. The words going out over Capitol Hill are the words of God.

This is quite a scene and one that happens annually in Washington, DC as part of the US Capitol Bible Reading Marathon. This year, the Bible Reading Marathon will take place from May 2nd - 6th, during which God's Holy Word will be read out loud, day and night, rain or shine, for ninety consecutive hours on the West Plaza of the Capitol.

The mission of Faith & Liberty is to bring the Word of God to bear on the hearts and minds of those that make public policy in America. One of the ways through which we accomplish this mission is our participation in the US Capitol Bible Reading Marathon. This year Peggy Nienaber, our Vice-President, and Rev. Greg Cox, our Lead Missionary will lead prayer in the opening ceremonies as well as participate in reading during the 90 hours. We also have members of Congress as well as Faith & Liberty supporters who will be reading scripture during the Marathon.

This is a powerful outreach opportunity and one that comes at a critical time.

Just think of what we have witnessed over the last few weeks:

  • The most partisan driven impeachment of a president in our nation's history!
  • The full embrace by the US House of Representatives of a radical extremist LGBT agenda!
  • An avowed socialist as a serious contender for the office of President of the United States,
  • And an unveiled threat by Senator Chuck Schumer against two Supreme Court Justices if they don't decide to uphold his radical pro-abortion views!

One thing is certain: Our national leaders need the Word of God! And that's what your missionary team at Faith & Liberty brings to Capitol Hill every single day.

And, with the US Capitol Bible Reading Marathon just around the corner, you can also be a part of that mission!

If you or your family or church will be in the Washington DC area during the US Capitol Bible Reading Marathon, there are reading time slots available. For more information call Patty Bills at 202-737-1776 today.  Please pray for everyone taking part and for those who will be passing by. It may be that some will hear the Word of God for the very first time.
