Making A Difference In The Nation's Capital Through Prayer And Action

A Miracle in the Chaos

Nov 20, 2021

On December 2, 2021, Faith & Liberty will present our Live Nativity on Capitol Hill. This unusual event, complete with live animals and real people re-enacting the glorious scene from Luke Chapter 2, will help ALL of Washington DC focus on the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, during this Christmas Season. But we need YOUR help to make this happen. We have just 12 days to make the Live Nativity a success. We have just 12 days to make the Live Nativity a success.

Your generous support is needed RIGHT NOW to put Jesus Christ – the reason for the season – front and center in Washington, DC!

You might be asking why we take the time, effort and extraordinary expense of conducting a complete Live Nativity in the heart of the Capitol. First, with all of the bitterness, strife and division plaguing our nation’s Capital, the Live Nativity serves as a beautiful reminder to all of Washington’s elected politicians, appointed officials, staff, residents and millions of Christmas tourists, that America was founded as a Christian nation and that JESUS is the reason for the season. But also, every aspect of the Nativity bears important relevance to our present, daily life, even over 2,000 years later.

Let’s start with this one – If there is one lesson we can all learn from the pandemic, it is this, life can be chaotic. But our gracious God offers peace in the most chaotic times.

Mary and Joseph certainly experienced this in the days leading up to the birth of Christ. The Gospel of Luke tells us, "And it came about in those days that a decree went out from Ceasar."

The miracle of the birth of Christ begins with reference to the actions of a powerful world figure living far away from the little village of Nazareth that was home to Joseph and Mary. Caesar Augustus decides to take a census of his empire. That decision, over which Joseph has no control, forces Joseph to take his pregnant wife Mary on a long, dangerous trek from Nazareth to Bethlehem. Caesar’s whim brought chaos upon Mary and Joseph. Joseph was aware of God’s promise, but still had to make the difficult journey and trust God for the results.

Life is like that. The government acts, and our lives are disrupted.

There are times we can find ourselves impacted by circumstances, like a pandemic or government overreach, over which we have little or no control. Yet, often behind these seemingly random acts is the unseen hand of God, working His purposes. While human events were unfolding according to the plans of a pagan emperor, disrupting lives and creating chaos, in reality, God was at work, fulfilling His divine promise to bring forth a Savior who would split the centuries and bring redemption to each one of us.

That’s part of why we do the Live Nativity: To remind our nation’s leaders, whether they like it or not, that while they plan and legislate public policy, there is a God in heaven who directs the affairs of men and to whom we are all accountable – even representatives, senators, supreme court justices, and presidents!

You see, there is just something about seeing the image of the Holy Family journeying around Capitol Hill – by the Senate office buildings – in front of the Supreme Court – and opposite the US Capitol that makes for a spectacle no one can ignore!

It’s a stirring picture, and a reminder to powerful forces on Capitol Hill of who Jesus is and a stark example of just how much the Gospel is needed in our nation, perhaps today as never before.

That’s exactly what your generous donation in support of the Live Nativity is doing. Through your gifts, you are helping us reach out to our nation’s leaders with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ!
